I was surprised by how sad I was to learn of Michael Jackson's death yesterday. I never owned a Michael Jackson album and I used to cringe everytime someone would refer to him as the "King of Pop," but my childhood was completely infused with his music.  So many memories are attached to a Jackson 5 or Michael Jackson song.  E.g., I remember my friend, Gina, and I twirling batons for hours in her driveway and trying to figure out what MJ was saying in this number .

Also, I think some of us were really hoping that he would snap out of it ... you know?  Stop acting so creepy and regain some dignity before his demise.  I read a comment to someone else's Michael Jackson blurb that said that he died a long time ago and I agree.  But now that he's officially dead, I wonder if Michael Jackson will surpass Elvis in reported sightings at truck stops and small-town diners.  RIP Michael Jackson.
