I just want to put this song in a bucket and pour it over my head!
First, there was Lloyd Cole, then there was Lloyd Dobler. And now, one of my favorite groups, Camera Obscura, has created this charming homage to the former.
This video makes me want to shop, dance and cut my bangs.

Music-wise, what was the first 45, single or download you bought?

Gosh, it was a really, really long time ago, but I am just about 100% sure that the first 45 I ever bought was The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations." And I'm equally sure that I played it over and over and over again, while my mother cringed and/or yelled, "Turn that music down!" Luckily, I still really dig that tune, so I can disclose my first 45 purchase with pride!
One summer when I was about 11 or 12, I went to see the Beach Boys at the Indiana State Fair with my brother and his Mormon girlfriend, Pam. Pam was my brother's first official "girlfriend" and I think he was trying to show her his family-loving, sensitive side by inviting me to come along with them. It was thrilling for me to see the Beach Boys but also very odd for me to be out on a date with my brother and his girlfriend. At some point during the show, I saw him lean in close to her and say, "This would be a lot better if my sister wasn't here." Oh! Ouch! My poor, fragile pre-pubescent self esteem!

I'm not sure if they're still making music, but I just LOVE the Mysteries of Life. Their music gives me the chills, it's so good!
