Cool!
This photo?
was taken in Martinsville, Indiana. This might be the only Obama sign in Martinsville!
from Jonathan Martin's blog at politico.com.
So far, I've bet one friend a dollar that Obama's VP pick won't be Hillary;
I've told another friend that I will eat my hat if the VP pick is Tim Kaine;
And I told my mom that I would do the hula down Meridian Street if the VP pick is Wesley Clark.
Now, I'm getting a funny feeling that this guy is going to be the VP pick, which is good because I haven't agreed to pay anything or do anything silly as far as he's concerned. Obama Edwards? No ... not him, the other Edwards.

WHO will Obama pick for V.P.?
For some reason, I keep thinking it will be someone other than the three on whom the media is fixated - Bayh, Biden and Kaine. Maybe it's wishful thinking because I'm not exactly smitten with those three possible candidates.
But, who?
Last night G and I tried to make a friendly bet to see if either of us could accurately predict Obama's VP pick. But, I think we fell flat because no stakes were determined and G didn't ever venture a guess. My guess is a retired military dude whose name rhymes with Less Bark. Again ... wishful thinking, I think.
Overall, though, the mood was warm, even joyful, a sign perhaps of just how deep the yearning outside the US is to end the current era — and to have an America non-Americans can believe in again.
I really dig Mark Morford. I love his snarky attacks on pop culture, his cutting political commentary, his keen insights into current events. And now he has illuminated the case for an Obama candidacy and presidency like no other.
But I'll even take it a step further. Because the greatest thing about Obama isn't really about Obama at all, per se. It's actually about, well, us.
This is the great revelation: We still got it. The collective unconscious, the deep sense of inner wisdom, that intuitive knowing that borders on a kind of mystical proficiency, where millions of people can actually look beyond rhetoric and media spin and merely feel the presence of something great in the room? Yep, still there. Who knew?
Yes! Just the other day, I was struggling to express this same sentiment to G. I was feeling fairly emotional (damn my goblet of organic wine!) and I lapsed into utter corny-as-hell-ness and said something like "It's as if Obama set people's hearts aloft and Hillary is trying to shoot them down like balloons." [Note to Hallmark: Call me!]
It's this: People feel it. They hear an Obama speech or read the articles or talk to like-minded folk, and they squint their eyes and weigh everything and then dismiss all that surface crap and get that look on their face that says, you know what? This guy gets it. He feels right. It's not a trick of light. It's not complete bulls—. It's not the usual spin and manipulation and fakery. There is actual meat on this bone. What a thing.
Yes, Mark Morford! Yes, I say! And I don't even eat meat!

The second Obama sign appeared on our block this week (ours was the first), which made me very happy! Who else wants to get on the "Change Train?"
I lived in Iowa from 1979 until 1984, and I have nothing but fondness for the Hawkeye State. But nothing from my time spent as an Iowa resident endeared me so much to that Midwestern political mecca as the victory Iowa served up last night to Barack Obama!
Obama '08!!!
